Isolation procedure
Complete each step before working on any electrical system
  1. Identify all sources of supply to the equipment
  2. Isolate using appropriate means — MCB, isolator, fused spur
  3. Secure isolation using lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) devices
  4. Prove dead using an approved voltage indicator
  5. Apply earths if necessary (for HV work)
  6. Post warning notices at all isolation points
Panel pre-entry checks
Complete before working inside any panel
  1. All incoming supplies identified and isolated
  2. UPS or battery backup systems identified
  3. Stored energy in capacitors checked (especially VSDs)
  4. Appropriate PPE in use — including arc flash protection if required
System testing stages
Complete each stage in sequence
  1. Static testing — all I/O points verified to read and write correctly
  2. Dynamic testing — sequences tested under controlled conditions
  3. Integration testing — third-party system interfaces verified
  4. Performance testing — control loops tuned, setpoints verified
  5. Witness testing — system demonstrated to client, snags resolved
