Structured Cabling Installation & Network Infrastructure

Professional Cat6 and Cat6a structured cabling installation for commercial buildings across London and the UK. From single comms rooms to multi-floor campus networks — designed, installed, tested, and certified to BS EN 50173 and BS 6701.

What We Do

Alpha Controls designs and installs structured cabling systems for offices, data centres, schools, hospitals, and industrial buildings across London, Kent, and the wider UK. Our cabling engineers deliver end-to-end installations — from initial survey and containment through to termination, testing, and certification — giving you a network infrastructure that performs reliably from day one and scales as your requirements grow.

We work with Cat6 and Cat6a copper cabling for standard data and PoE applications, and single-mode and multi-mode fibre optics for high-bandwidth backbone links between floors and buildings. Every installation is tested with Fluke DSX CableAnalyzer equipment and certified against BS EN 50173 channel specifications, providing an auditable record of performance for building owners, IT managers, and facilities teams.

Because Alpha Controls also provides BMS engineering and electrical installation services, we can deliver integrated projects where data cabling, BMS networks, and electrical first-fix are all managed under a single contract — eliminating interface risk and reducing overall programme time.

Our Cabling Services

End-to-end structured cabling and network infrastructure services

Cat6 & Cat6a Structured Cabling
Full structured cabling installations using Cat6 and Cat6a copper cabling for high-speed data networks. All runs terminated, labelled, tested, and certified to TIA/EIA-568 and BS EN 50173 standards.
Fibre Optic Installation
Single-mode and multi-mode fibre optic backbone cabling for high-bandwidth, long-distance runs between floors, buildings, and campus sites. Fusion splicing, termination, and OTDR testing included.
Server Room & Comms Room Builds
Complete server room and communications room fit-outs including cabinet installation, cable management, patch panels, power distribution, environmental monitoring, and structured cabling to every rack position.
Cable Containment & Management
Basket tray, trunking, conduit, and ladder rack containment systems designed and installed to support clean, accessible cable routes. Segregation of power and data per BS 6701 requirements.
Cable Testing & Certification
Every cable run is tested and certified using Fluke DSX CableAnalyzer equipment. Full test reports issued for Cat6 and Cat6a permanent links, confirming compliance with BS EN 50173 channel specifications.
Network Infrastructure & Patching
Supply and installation of network switches, patch panels, wall outlets, and floor boxes. We design structured patching schemes that keep comms rooms organised and maintainable long-term.

Industries We Serve

Our structured cabling installations support a wide range of commercial and institutional environments. Whether you need a single comms room fit-out or a multi-building campus network, our engineers have the experience to deliver on time and to standard.

  • Commercial offices and headquarters
  • Data centres and server rooms
  • Schools, colleges, and universities
  • Hospitals and healthcare facilities
  • Retail and hospitality
  • Industrial and warehouse environments
  • Multi-tenanted buildings
  • New-build and refurbishment projects

Our Approach

Every cabling project starts with a thorough site survey to understand the building layout, current infrastructure, and future capacity requirements. We produce a detailed design that specifies cable categories, containment routes, outlet positions, and comms room layouts before any installation work begins.

During installation, our engineers follow a disciplined process: containment first, then cable pulling, termination, labelling, and testing. Every cable is tested individually using calibrated Fluke equipment, and we do not hand over until every link passes certification. The result is a clean, well-documented installation that your IT team can rely on and maintain with confidence.

Standards & Compliance

All Alpha Controls cabling installations are designed and delivered in compliance with the relevant British and international standards. We take compliance seriously because a cabling installation that does not meet the applicable standards cannot be guaranteed to perform at the rated speed and may fail prematurely.

BS EN 50173 — Generic cabling systems
BS 6701 — Telecoms equipment & cabling
BS 7671 — Electrical installations (IET Wiring Regulations)
TIA/EIA-568 — Commercial building cabling standard
ISO/IEC 11801 — International cabling standard
Fluke DSX certified test results for every link

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Cat6 and Cat6a cabling?

Cat6 cabling supports data speeds up to 10 Gbps over short distances (up to 55 metres) and 1 Gbps over the full 100-metre permanent link. Cat6a (augmented) supports 10 Gbps over the full 100-metre distance and offers improved shielding against crosstalk and electromagnetic interference. For new installations, Alpha Controls generally recommends Cat6a as a future-proof investment, particularly in environments where high bandwidth, Power over Ethernet (PoE++), or BMS integration is planned.

Do you provide cable testing and certification?

Yes. Every cable run we install is tested and certified using Fluke DSX CableAnalyzer equipment. We issue full test reports for each permanent link, confirming compliance with BS EN 50173 and TIA/EIA-568 channel specifications. These reports document wire map, length, insertion loss, NEXT, PS-NEXT, ACR-F, and return loss — providing an auditable record that the installation meets the required performance standard.

Can you install cabling in an occupied building without disrupting business?

Yes. The majority of our cabling installations are carried out in fully occupied commercial buildings. We plan cable routes to minimise disruption, carry out noisy work such as core drilling outside business hours, and keep work areas clean and safe throughout. Our engineers are experienced in working around live office environments, server rooms, and public-facing spaces.

What standards do your cabling installations comply with?

All Alpha Controls cabling installations comply with BS EN 50173 (generic cabling systems), BS 6701 (telecommunications equipment and telecommunications cabling), and BS 7671 (electrical installations) where power cabling is involved. We also follow the recommendations of TIA/EIA-568 for structured cabling design and ISO/IEC 11801 for international projects. All work is tested and certified against the applicable standard.

Do you build server rooms and comms rooms?

Yes. We deliver complete server room and communications room fit-outs from an empty shell through to a fully operational facility. This includes raised access flooring or containment, cabinet and rack installation, structured cabling to every rack position, power distribution (PDUs), patch panels, cable management, environmental monitoring, and labelling. We work alongside mechanical and electrical contractors where cooling and power supplies are required.

Can you integrate data cabling with a BMS installation?

Yes — this is one of our key advantages. Because Alpha Controls provides both BMS engineering and structured cabling services, we can design and install a single coordinated network infrastructure that serves both IT data and BMS/BACnet traffic. This eliminates the coordination overhead of using separate cabling and controls contractors, and ensures correct VLAN segregation, cable routing, and containment from day one.
