Trend controller end-of-life register
Withdrawal dates, published replacement controllers and support-window dates for withdrawn Trend IQ controllers and the 963 supervisor. Every row is cited, and every derived date shows the interval it was derived from.

All 18 controllers in the published withdrawal table are now past Trend’s stated ten-year support horizon.
The last of them — IQ221/223/228/229 and the IQ3XCITE and IQ3XACT XNC variants — was withdrawn on 30 April 2016 and passed the ten-year mark on 30 April 2026. The 963 supervisor is counted separately: its support dates were announced by the vendor rather than derived from the policy interval, and its own ten-year point has not yet arrived even though technical support ended on 1 January 2025. This describes the products in the published withdrawal record only. Current IQ4-series products are not affected.
How the support dates are worked out
Trend publishes support intervals as a policy rather than per-product end dates. Applying that policy to each withdrawal date gives the dates in the table. The intervals, quoted from the source:

What “past the ten-year horizon” does and does not mean
The dates above describe Trend’s stated support position. They are not a verdict on the hardware in your building, and it is worth being precise about the difference.
What it does mean
- The product is past the period Trend stated it would use reasonable endeavours to support, so a replacement or exchange after a field failure is no longer something you can rely on.
- Regular security updates stopped 18 months after withdrawal. On the 30 April 2016 cohort that was October 2017.
- Spares depend on whatever stock and repair capacity still exists, which is a commercial question rather than a supported one.
- It is a planning signal: failure of an unsupported controller becomes a programme risk rather than a maintenance event.
What it does not mean
- It does not mean the controller has stopped working. Plenty of these units are running correctly today and will continue to.
- It does not mean support is unavailable in every circumstance — Trend’s wording is reasonable endeavours subject to parts availability, not a hard cut-off, and integrators still service these systems.
- It does not create any legal or regulatory obligation to replace the equipment.
- It is not a safety finding. Nothing here says the equipment is unsafe.
- It does not mean the controller is incompatible with a modern system. Migration paths exist, and field wiring can usually be reused.
What to do next
- Establish what you actually have. Controller type and count per plant room, taken from the system rather than from the O&M file, which is frequently out of date. The register is only useful against a real inventory.
- Separate risk from age. A withdrawn controller on non-critical plant is a different proposition from the same controller running a landlord LTHW system or a data hall. Rank by consequence of failure, not by withdrawal date.
- Check the supervisor separately. On a 963 the binding constraint is usually relicensing rather than hardware — a host change or disk failure can leave the licence unrecoverable.
- Plan a phased migration, not a rip-out. Replacement is normally staged across budget years, taking the highest-consequence plant first and reusing field wiring where it is sound.
- Confirm the position for your own estate. These dates come from the sources cited below, not from an inspection of your site. Verify with Trend or your maintainer before committing spend.
Common questions
Is my Trend IQ3 controller still supported?
Every IQ3 variant in the published withdrawal record was withdrawn on or before 30 April 2016. Applying Trend's stated ten-year support commitment to those withdrawal dates, the last IQ3 cohort passed that horizon on 30 April 2026. Trend's stated 18-month security-update window for the same cohort closed in October 2017. That does not mean the controller has stopped working — it means replacement or exchange after a field failure can no longer be relied on.
What replaces a Trend IQ3xcite controller?
The source lists the suggested replacement for IQ3XCITE/xx/100-240 as the IQ4E/xx/xx/BAC/230 with IQ4/IO modules matched to the I/O requirement, and IQ3xact as IQ422/12/xx. These are the replacements the published table suggests rather than formally designated successors, so confirm the specific mapping for your site before ordering.
When did the Trend 963 supervisor lose support?
The 963 was removed from sale in December 2019. Relicensing was withdrawn on 1 January 2024 and technical support ended on 1 January 2025. Those dates were announced for the product rather than derived from the ten-year policy interval, so the 963 is listed separately from the withdrawal-table cohort. The practical risk is relicensing: after a hardware failure or host change the licence may not be recoverable.

We have not located the underlying Trend or Honeywell bulletin, so every withdrawal date here is single-source and accurate as at August 2017. Products withdrawn after that date are not in the table — the 963 supervisor is included separately from its own source.
Support intervals are subject to the availability of component parts, and Trend states the ten-year commitment as reasonable endeavours rather than a guarantee. Confirm the position for your own estate with Trend or your maintainer before making a spend decision.
